Objectives:At the end of the module students are able to describe the concepts of marine measuring platforms and underwater vehicles. They have gained knowledge about marine engineering systems and applications, e.g. autonomous and remote-controlled underwater vehicles (AUVs/ROVs/Floats/Crawler) and intelligent manipulator systems as well as basic knowledge of marine robotics.

Exercises are partly done in teamwork and strengthen the competence to solve problems by selecting appropriate methods, conducting research and independently acquiring knowledge, as well as presenting and documenting results.
Students are required to deal with different communication and working methods so that they will learn interdisciplinary contents, such as team organisation and task scheduling.
Contents:Main issues of autonomous and remote control measuring systems in marine research and marine engineering: robotics, microsystems technology, embedded systems and mechatronics; fields of application of marine measuring platforms; AUVs, ROVs, Floats, crawlers; manipulators, sensors/actors, drive systems; environmental assessment and collision avoidance
Applicability:Compulsory module for this study course and an elective module for other study courses
