Exam requirements: 
Objectives:The students get a sound knowledge about all common type of lasers and their interaction with matter. Moreover they get an understanding of laser machining processes. The boundaries of the processes are known and the students are able to choose the right type of laser processing setup for different types of applications.
Course contents:Basic principle of lasers and introduction to laser devices. Explanation of specific laser types: e.g. CO2, Nd:YAG, Yb:YAG (disc), fibre laser, diode laser, excimerlaser
Beam guidance and beam modification concepts. Overview of essential laser materi-al processes: e.g. laser welding (heat conduction, deep penetration hybrid), laser brazing, laser cutting, additive manufacturing, laser surface modification (harden-ing, remelting, alloying, dispersing), laser ablation, laser drilling
