Objectives:Students know the main groups of engineering materials, their structures and properties. They are able to select materials for specific purposes, in case of problems with materials or materials processing they can define and solve these problems.
Contents:Introduction to the properties of metals and alloys: crystal structure, elastic and plastic deformation, microstructure, diffusion, phase diagrams; iron-carbon phase-diagram, steels and cast iron; heat treatment of steel and Al-allos.
Applicability:Mandatory module for the Mechanical Engineering course and elective mandatory module for other Bachelor courses.
