Modul: Sensors and measuring electronics

Modul no. :n/a
ECTS credits:5
Expenditure of time:54h contact time + 96h self study
Modul type:compulsory module
Duration:1 semester
Supervisor:Prof. Dr. H. Lenz-Strauch
Requirements:A successful participation at the modules of the first study section is recommended.
Objectives:Students are able the distinguish and classify the main principles for converting physical quantities in electrical signals; they can design signal conditioning circuitries for these quantities; they are able to account for the error sources essential in the signal conditioning process; students have hnowledge about basic A/D conversion techniques and can apply them; they know the structural design of major electronic measuring devices and have knowledge about industrial measurement data recording systems.
The form of the lab course with intensive and autonomous group work requires that the students deal with different communication and working styles in their groups. Accordingly, the students are able to independently apply the basics of classical project management, such as team organization, task planning and division of labor. In this way, they have trained social skills such as teamwork, criticism and communication skills. Furthermore, they have the competence to find solutions to problems and to select the right methods, to conduct research and independent acquisition of knowledge as well as to present and comprehensively document work results.
Contents:Principles of converting physical quantities into electrical signals; parameters and transfer characteristics of sensors; basic principles of analogue and digital data acqusition as well as signal processing; measuring amplifiers and A/D- converters; principles of using measuring systems in automatisation; basic principles of optical measuring techniques
Applicability:Mandatory module for the Electrical Engineering course and elective mandatory module for other bachelor courses.
Teaching methods:Lecture, exercises and laboratory work
