Objectives:This lecture is designed for a first course in the field of materials science and engineering. The goal is the accurate description of the balance between scientific principles and practical engineering that is required in selecting the proper materials for modern technology and to understand the electrical properties of the modern technologies.
Contents:Mechanical and electrical properties of metals; electrical properties of semiconductor materials; homogeneous and inhomogeneous semiconductors; smart materials; superconductors; dielectric materials and magnetic materials; principles of quantum informatics technology and nanoelectronics.
Applicability:Materials science deals with basic knowledge about the internal structure, properties and processing of materials. Materials engineering deals with the application of knowledge gained by materials science to convert materials to products. This lecture combines both subjects to a resultant knowledge of structure and properties of materials.
Teaching methods:Course work with integrated exercises. Experimental lab work concerning the subjects of the course work.
