Requirements:A successful completion of the modules Basic Principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering 1 and 2, as well as Mathematics 1 and 2 is advisable.
Objectives:After successfully completing the module, students will be able to distinguish and classify the general principles and properties of measuring instruments. They have basic knowledge of tmain measurement methods and measurement statistics. They can design and set up measurement circuits and are able to determine measurement uncertainties of measuring devices and measurement results. They also can calculate combined measurement results out of several single readings. Instruments for measuring static as well as alternating electrical quantities can be used competently. The students are able to conduct measurements with oscilloscopes.

The form of the lab course with intensive and autonomous group work requires that the students deal with different communication and working styles in their groups. Accordingly, the students are able to independently apply the basics of classical project management, such as team organization, task planning and division of labor. In this way, they have trained social skills such as teamwork, criticism and communication skills. Furthermore, they have the competence to find solutions to problems and to select the right methods, to conduct research and independent acquisition of knowledge as well as to present and comprehensively document work results.
Contents:Basic measurement concepts; measurement errors and error propagation; gauge standards; current, voltage and electrical power measurement; electrical resistance measurement; measurement bridges; measurement with the oszilloscop; automated measurement systems
Applicability:Compulsory module for this course of studies and an elective module for other study paths.
