Objectives:After completing this course students will be able to identify organic substances according to their structure, names and functional groups. They can use the chemical and physical principles of organic reactions and will have knowledge about the most prominent natural compounds and their biological relevance as well as about the environmental impact of organic substances.
Contents:Systematics in naming and classifying organic compounds. Fundamentals of the theory of chemical bonds. Functional groups and classes of organic compounds. Typical reactions of selected classes of organic compounds including thermodynamic considerations. Important classes of natural compounds and their biological relevance. Environmental impact of organic substances.
Applicability:Mandatory module for the Mechanical Engineering course and elective mandatory module for other bachelor courses.
