Requirements: 
Objectives:For the production of defined components the optimal material and manufacturing technique should be selected and connected with the fitting design principles to optimize manufacturing.
The contents of the courses “Werkstoffe-Konstruktion-Fertigung 1 und 2“ are practical trained.
Students get practical experiences in using 3D-CAD-systems for creating part- and assembly-models and also engineering drawings.
The form of the lab course with intensive and autonomous group work requires that the students deal with different communication and working styles in their groups. Accordingly, the students are able to independently apply the basics of classical project management, such as team organization, task planning and division of labor. In this way, they have trained social skills such as teamwork, criticism and communication skills. Furthermore, they have the competence to find solutions to problems and to select the right methods, to conduct research and independent acquisition of knowledge as well as to present and comprehensively document work results.

Contents:Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes joining, coating and material properties change of metals, polymers, ceramics, glasses, composite materials; special processes; design guidelines; manufacturing systems; recycling; material selection.
Experiments out of materials science and manufacturing, preparation of testing protocols, statistical analysis of data and presentation of results.

Basics of 3D-CAD-technology, especially practical experiences in using 3D-CAD-systems for creating part- and assembly-models and also engineering drawings.

Applicability:Compulsory module for this course of studies and an elective module for other study paths.
