Objectives:Datarates determine the effectivity of digital infrastructures.

Already existing networks are being operated by using high performance computers as of today and in the future.

Despite inevitable channel distortions improvements are being sought for.
At a given distortion figure the channel capacity (Shannon Limit) limits the achievable bit rates.

Students learn, how by channelcoding this limit may be approached as closely as possible.

They will understand how in wireless networkst the usable bitrate additionally depends on the spatial dimensision and how antenna arrays allow to improve the useable bitrate.

Based on their knowledge on information transport, students learn the general procedures of locally or remotely digital transmitting information over different waveguides or by wireless.

They can determine the achievable bit rates of the different transmission procedures under various error-inducing physical conditions. By that strategic network planning can be carried out.

Students can plan and design line networks under real environmental conditions, both in buildings and outside. They learn to use GIS-based methods and to apply methods for preservation of quality.

- Limitation to PHY and DLL
- Modulation nQAM and OFDM
- Types of channel distortion, quantification
- Basics of information theory, Galois-fields, channel coding
- Basics of block codings and convolution codings, Hamming distance
- Modern Coding methods for high speed data transmission
- MIMO transmission for wireless networks
