Objectives:After successfully attending the event, students have an understanding of the basic principles of mammalian motion: anatomical, mechanical and physiological foundations of skeletal structures and joints including skeletal mechanics, smooth muscle, innervation. They understand underlying regulatory mechanisms, lung development and their function. In addition, they may explain the interaction with the environment as well as approaches to drug uptake in relation to ventilation. The students have the basic understanding of the sensorimotor control approach and basic understanding of the evaluation of concepts of technical innovation (top-down approach).
The students have the ability to calculate forces using anatomical geometries in biomechanics and to fundamentally design simple implant concepts. They are capable of initial biocompatibility assessment of materials as well as the electrophysiological interpretation of the simplest stimulation concepts in active implants. In addition, students are able to design and perform simple test setups, as well as approximate interpretation of respiratory parameter based drug uptake and assessment of the effect on inhaled drug intake.
Course contents:Basic elements of statics, structural mechanics, strength theory, fluid mechanics
Exemplary basics of muscle actorics and sensory, afferent and efferent pathways as well as the simplest control mechanisms on the essential interconnection levels of the peripheral and central nervous system.
Simple basics of electro-neurophysiology, sensorimotor control, overview of neuroimplants, introduction to systems theory
Basics of the lung, respiratory parameters, inhalation and deposition of drugs in the lung, mechanisms of action and systemic availability, inhalation devices
