Exam requirements:Knowledge of important forms and structures of English grammar; availability of a solid basic vocabulary; reading comprehension and listening comprehension of English texts of an intermediate level; knowledge and skills in correct written expression, inclusive of more formalised text production, such as correspondence.
Objectives:Creating awareness of grammatical structures both within the English language and in comparison to other languages; acquisition of a reliable vocabulary; confidence in the application of grammatical structures and lexical units; increasingly independent language production; independence in enhancing vocabulary in semantic fields; and in learning grammatical structures.
Course contents:Creating awareness and exercising of important forms and structures of the English language (particularly those prone to language interference) such as tense and aspect; Systematic building up of a reliable basic vocabulary, particularly belonging to the semantic fields of: jobs; area and cultural studies, argumentation, discussion, chairing of meetings, presentations, telephoning, as well as a basic vocabulary related to the economy and trade; Guided and increasingly independent grammatically, situationally and idiomatically correct application of language; Language contrasts and convergences in the fields of vocabulary and grammar; Reading and listening comprehension of increasingly authentic texts taken from technology, natural sciences and the economy; Written correspondence (application; gathering information)
Literature:Textmaterialien werden in den Lehrveranstaltungen ausgegeben; Studenten sollten mit der Benutzung üblicher Grammatiken, sowie bi- und monolingualer Wörterbücher vertraut sein. Auf geeignete Literatur zum eigenständigen Wortschatzaufbau wird in der Lehrveranstaltung verwiesen. ------------- Texts will be issued during classes; students are expected to be familiar with referring to commonly used grammar books, as well as mono- and bilingual dictionaries. Suitable literature for an independent acquisition of vocabulary will be recommended during classes.
