Objectives:After successful participation, the students will be familiar with some equipment used in high voltage transmission systems and will be able to define the basic framework of electrical power transport and transmission. The students will develop a basic understanding of electric fields in high voltage engineering and will be able to qualitatively describe the field characteristics of simple geometries and applications. Furthermore, the students will be able to describe physical discharge mechanisms. In addition, the students understand some aspects of high-voltage test and measurement techniques, e. g. the generation of high voltages for testing purposes and the measurement of capacitances and loss factors in high voltage engineering.
