Objectives:Basics for the design of transport aircraft.
Course contents:1. Market analysis & global market forecast
2. Aircraft preliminary design (performance-parameters, phases of the design-process, iterative design, range & mass prediction, direct operational costs)
3. Fuselage design (fuselage structure, cabin layout, cargo hold)
4. Wing (aerodynamic layouts, structure and arrangement of the wing, design-process, drag in cruise flight, requirements for wing profiles, transonic profiles, swept wings)
5. High-Lift System (requirements for high-lift systems, flight profiles for take-off and landing, maximum lift, flap systems)
6. Empennage (concepts, empennage design, stability & control)
7. Engine (engine selection and –integration)
8. Loads (load cases, dimensioning, manoeuvre-loads, gust-loads)
9. Tools for aircraft design (numerical methods, wind-tunnel testing, etc)
10. Novel technologies for aircraft design (novel configurations, laminar flow technology, multifunctional wings, carbon fiber material)
