Course: process optimized new production techniques lab

Course no. :n/a
ECTS credits:2
Lecturer(s):Prof. Dr.-Ing. P. Wack
Available: winter term summer term
Course type:Practical exercises
Exam type:Experimental study
Exam requirements:Knowledge about new production technologies, to get informations from the process and put new optimiced informations into the process to get a good result.
Objectives:Providing cutting-edge knowledge resulting from research projects. Students will learn about new strategies and new future-oriented projects. Students will also be able to participate in publicly funded research projects or industrial contract research projects.
The form of the lab course with intensive and autonomous group work requires that the students deal with different communication and working styles in their groups. Accordingly, the students are able to independently apply the basics of classical project management, such as team organization, task planning and division of labor. In this way, they have trained social skills such as teamwork, criticism and communication skills. Furthermore, they have the competence to find solutions to problems and to select the right methods, to conduct research and independent acquisition of knowledge as well as to present and comprehensively document work results.
Course contents:After having outlined the general structure and pre-requisites of a process-optimised production process, the lecture will discuss the necessary elements and special features of a linked production process.
This is followed by detailed information about an automated process sequence (for a stationary process) and the necessary sensors for measuring relevant process parameters and data processing.
The findings thus obtained are then integrated into the production process, object of another chapter of the lecture, followed by the question: What are the advantages of a process-optimised production technology with regard to quality, production time and cost? Finally, new process-optimised production techniques are presented, for example precision forging, thixo-forming, high-speed cutting (HSC) and high-performance cutting (HPC) as well as friction, plasma and laser welding.
In a test-laboratory the students could practise their knowledge about these new productions technologies in several works.
