Objectives:Students understand the difference between experimental findings and theoretical ideal behavior of physical quantities in electrical energy systems.
Students understand basic principles of symmetric steady state behavior in electrical energy systems. Furthermore they understand basic principles of three phase short circuits in electrical energy systems and their thermal and mechanical effects.
The form of the lab course with intensive and autonomous group work requires that the students deal with different communication and working styles in their groups. Accordingly, the students are able to independently apply the basics of classical project management, such as team organization, task planning and division of labor. In this way, they have trained social skills such as teamwork, criticism and communication skills. Furthermore, they have the competence to find solutions to problems and to select the right methods, to conduct research and independent acquisition of knowledge as well as to present and comprehensively document work results.
Course contents:In the laboratory the basic principles of symmetric steady state behavior of components in electrical energy systems is demonstrated by the use of experiments.
In addition basics in voltage stability and capacity utilization are shown by the use of experiments.
Finally the laboratory ends with an experimental demonstration of a three phase short circuit.
