Exam requirements:Knowledge of verification concepts, load assumptions, products, materials and joining methods and types of structures. Verification of components against static and fatigue loads, flexural-, lateral- and plate-buckling, verification of bolted and welded joints.
Objectives:The student shall acquire the knowledge of design and verification of structural components, especially in respect to cranes and earth moving mashines. He (she) shall be able to recognize the different possible failure modes and to apply existing codes.
Course contents:1. Verification concepts (allowable stress, partial safety factors)
2. Load assumptions (buildings, cranes, moving loads)
3. Basics of technology (material selection, products, joining methods)
4. Types of structures (truss, frame, grid, plate structure)
5. Verification of stresses in components
6. Stability (flexural-, lateral- and plate-buckling, 2nd order theory)
7. Joining methods (rivets, bolts, friction grip bolts, welded joints)
8. Fatigue ( basics, load spectra, notch effects, damage summation, codes
9. Basics of fracture mechanics (stress intensity, fracture toughness, crack propagation)
10. Application of computing for steel structures (types of software)
Literature:Da keine entsprechenden Bücher existieren, werden ein Vorlesungsumdruck und eine CD zur Verfügung gestellt.
Since no appropriate books are available, a printed manuscript and a CD will be distributed.
